O Parque Farroupilha, mais conhecido como Parque da Redenção é o mais antigo e o mais popular parque de Porto Alegre. Este é um dos locais muito frequentado durante o fim-de-semana, sendo para praticar esportes, passear, ou confraternizar com amigos e família tomando chimarrão.
Fundado a 19 de Setembro de 1935, serviu para comemorar o centenário da Revolução Farroupilha, seguindo um projeto do urbanista fracês Alfred Agache contratado pela administração do Prefeito Alberto Bins.
Originalmente o local foi doado à cidade em 24 de Outubro de 1807 pelo governador Paulo José da Silva Gama 'para os utilíssimos e necessários fins de conservação de gados que matam nos açougues desta vila'. Uma cláusula do contrato estabelecia que a área não poderia ser alienada sem expressa autorização de Sua Alteza Real, Dom João VI.
Em 1807, quando a área se localizava próxima ao portão de entrada da cidade, abrigava os carreteiros que comercializavam o gado da região. Era chamada de Campos da Várzea do Portão e, depois, Campo do Bom Fim face a proximidade da Igreja do Nosso Senhor do Bom Fim (1867) e das festas que ali se realizavam.
Algum tempo depois a área ficou marcada para sempre: serviu de cenário ao importante movimento pela libertação do escravos, sendo denominada de Campo da Redenção. Esse nome permanece na memória dos Porto-alegrenses até hoje.

The Farroupilha Park, better known as Redemption Park is the oldest and most popular park in Porto Alegre. This is one of the very places frequented during the week-end, and to play sports, walk, or socializing with friends and family taking mate.
Founded on September 19, 1935, served to commemorate the centenary of the Revolution Farrukhabad, following a project planner fractions Alfred Agache hired by the administration of Mayor Alberto Bins.
Originally the site was donated to the city on 24 October 1807 by Governor José Paulo da Silva Gama 'very useful and necessary for conservation purposes cattle butchers who kill in this village.' A clause in the contract stipulated that the area could not be alienated without the express permission of His Royal Highness, Dom João VI.
In 1807, when the area was located near the entrance gate of the city, housed the carters who traded cattle in the region. It was called the Lowland Gate Fields and then Campo Bom Fim face of the proximity of the Church of Our Lord of the Good End (1867) and the parties that were held there.
Sometime after the area was marked forever: provided the backdrop to major movement for the liberation of slaves, being named Field of Redemption. This name remains in the memory of the inhabitants of Porto Alegre today.
