Geocache Description:

The Mid-Winter Geocaching Get-Together 2013 will follow the same theme as the previous six years. An event in the middle of the Adirondack Mountains, in the middle of the Winter where geocachers from all over the North East get together to geocache, visit with geocaching friends, make new friends, share stories, trade geocoins and signature items, and just plain ol' have fun in the snow.

Those of you who have never attended the Mid-Winter event, see the following links for previous events:

This is an interim listing, in order to get the information out early enough so those geocachers who wish to come up earlier than the event date can make accomodation arrangements.

The following info will not change:

If you own a snowmobile, do bring it.

As in the past, many geocachers choose to come up on the Friday before the event and some choose to stay until the Sunday after the event. For accommodation info, www.mylonglake.com

For questions about available seasonal lodging in Long Lake please call, 518-624-3077.

If you make a reservation, please post on the forums and the event page where you will be staying (Hotel/Motel) so others who are interested in knowing will know. Thanks

This is officially a one day event. You are not required to get accomodations. Please feel free to come up Saturday morning the day of the event and stay for just the day if you like.

2013 Contest: GEOCACHE DETECTOR This years' Mid-Winter Geocaching Get-Together contest is "Create a geocache detector/detection system." Need some ideas? Try using Google to look up the following: "Metal Detector", "Stud Finder", "Cable Locator", "Depth Finder", 'Sonar Detection", etc. Remember, your trying to find Geocaches (e.g. Ammo Cans, Tupperware, Film Canisters, Bison Tubes, Nanos, etc). There are no guidelines to shape, size, or overall functionality. The geocache detector is NOT meant to actually work, however, the more creativity and craftsmanship involved, the better the chance of winning (BONUS!). So, working components are allowed! Create the detector out of any type of material (cardboard, metal, PVC, etc) that you wish. Use crayon, paint, glitter, or any other crafts supplies you deem necessary. Add any amount of working parts (manual switches, LED lights, audio and/or electrical components, etc). The sky's the limit. Modifications of existing objects and technology are allowed! One entry submission per geocaching name. All submissions are the property of the geocacher at end of contest. Award catagories are: - Best Overall - Most Creative - Best Craftsmanship Entries will be judged by the event audience. (See 2012 event for last years contest specifics.) Have Fun!
