Welcome to the Arboretum Park!

The Bermuda Arboretum is located in Devonshire to the north of Middle Road, east of Montpelier road and the west of Fort Hill road. This 22 acre inland national park has entrances on either side. Historically, the area was owned by the British Army until it was given to the Bermuda Government in 1951.

The Arboretum differs from the Botanical Gardens in that it does not have structured flower beds and gardens but rather it features a large selection of trees, shrubs and open space meadows. The park consists of reforested native and endemic flora such as the Bermuda Cedar trees (Juniperus bermudiana), Bermuda’s endemic national flower Bermudiana (Sisyrinchium iridoides), Bermuda Olivewood Bark (Cassine laneana) and Bermuda Palmetto (Sabal bermudana). It also displays large ornamentals such as the Indian Rubber tree (Ficus elastic), and wooded areas comprised of Allspice (Pimenta dioica), Fiddlewood (Citharexylum spinosum),, Pride of India, (Melia azedarach) and Royal Poinciana (Delonix regia).

The woodland and open spaces there also offer an opportunity to see a wide variety of bird life. You will be able to see birds such Cardinals (Red birds) (Cardinalidae), pairs of Eastern Bluebirds (Sialia sialis), flocks of European Starlings (Sturnus vulgaris), Chick-of-the- village or White-eyed Vireo (Vireo griseus bermudianus) and Grey Catbirds (Dumetella carolinensis).

The park has plenty of space for picnics, offers walking trails and has 20 exercise stations. There is also an area that features a decorative bridge built out of Bermuda cedar with small pools leading visitors further into the parkland.

The park is free of admission and is open from sunrise to sunset. The Bermuda Arboretum is a definitely a must see attraction.
