Geocache Description:

Just noticed that with all the church caches i have visited, there is no cache at this church, nearby where i live....

Well, there is one now....

No longer listed as wheelchair accessible, as it hasn't always been replaced as found - sorry!

Beautiful church, best viewed in fact from the bridge, where one can see all the different levels in which the roof has been completed.  Very reminiscent of the typical Norwegian stav churches.

The church is from 1909, designed by architect Hans Jacob Sparre from Christiania (now Oslo).  In fact the architect company Hofflund & Kielland won an architectural competition for the design, but it turned out their design would be too expensive.

The church is finished in brushed tiling, with extensive use of hewn granite as an articulating element in the columns, doorways, windows and the cornerstones.  The church is a long church, which ends in a powerful and wide tower.  The church is finished in a neo-romantic style with influences of the Jugendstil.  The altarpiece was completed by Valentin kielland.

More than 10,000 people showed up for the laying of the first stone on November 8 1907, and two years later the church was completed and unveiled December 15 1909.
