St Mary's Church has a wonderful position with stunning views over the Teme valley and is well worth a visit.
St Mary's Church has a wonderful position with stunning views over the Teme valley. But it's not the site of the original church. The present church was built in 1769 and the original church, together with six cottages, were demolished so Sir Edward Winnington could built an ornamental lake for his stately home. The story goes that he paid the then bishop of Hereford (it was in Hereford diocese at that time) £500 for permission to do so. The church is built in the strawberry gothic style and has a marvelous acoustic for music and the church holds a number of concerts as well as regular services The Winnington monuments were moved from the old church and have recently been restored.
