Lymm Webcam Challenge Cache Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Pieman: The cache may still be there but if it is, it is under a large broken branch. Anyone who fancies having a go I suggest bringing a saw! As there are now only 7 webcam caches left in the UK, I think it’s time to archive this one.

Geocache Description:

This is a Challenge cache, which means you have to complete the task below, before you can find and log this cache.  This is not related to Groundspeak's Challenges which (confusingly) are a separate thing entirely and not related to geocaching.

Webcam caches are an interesting legacy from the start of geocaching.  There are still 18 left in the UK at the time of writing and over 250 in Europe, although the category has been closed to new caches for quite a few years now. In order to log them you need to position yourself in view of the webcam and take a photo of yourself with the webcam.  In the past this meant using a friend who was logged on to the webcam page, but now with a smartphone you can do it yourself at the webcam site. It's a silly but fun thing to do and following an idea from Chas of the Kelsborrow Wayfinders, I thought I should create a challenge cache to highlight these relatively rare caches.

Lymm seems to be the webcam capital of the UK with 13 webcams when the cache was set- now only 5 remain . You can access them from here which also shows the view from Matthew Corbett's Bridge Cottage which is on the Bridgewater Canal. He was the hand behind Sooty and Sweep before he retired. The webcam was out of opeartion for a while but as of 15.4.16 when I replaced the cache, it is back up and running with what looks like an upgraded camera.

In order to fulfil the challenge and to find and log this cache, you must log or have already logged 4 webcam caches on geocaching.com. The qualifying logs must include a photo taken by the appropriate webcam and NOT a photo taken with an ordinary camera or phone at the webcam coordinates.

The coordinates take you to a spot near Matthew Corbett's cottage, not the cache itself. In order to find the cache coordinates make a note of the hours (AB) and the days (C) that you can see here.

The cache is at: N53o 22.(B+1)(A-C)7 W2o 28.(B-1)(A)4

You don't have to take a picture at the Lymm webcams in order to claim a find but why not take a picture of yourselves anyway and upload it with your log. Step forward a few paces from the listing coordinates and you are in view of Matthew Corbett's webcam or go up on the bridge and you will be seen by the camera in the offices of lymm.com. If you walk around Lymm you will be in view of many others. Take a look at the pictures I took of myself after I set the cache. It's like a spot the Pieman competition! I am in the white shirt somewhere in each picture apart from the one taken by Mathew Corbett's webcam, where you can see Mrs P

Extra kudos if you take a picture using Matthew Corbett's webcam and have a Sooty puppet on your hand!
