Great Detectives: Kay Scarpetta Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

The WBs: I was considering re-deployment or transferring ownership on the detectives, as circumstances are unfortunately preventing the maintenance I should be providing. Archiving is the best option, based on the tone of the DNF logs and dwindling interest in caches in the "unknown" category that are not challenge caches. Thanks for playing!

Now the airwaves are full of medical examiners, forensic detectives and crime scene investigators, but Kay Scarpetta made her literary debut in 1990. “Quincy, M.E.” had aired from 1976 to 1983, and Gideon Oliver (the “Skeleton Doctor”) made his book debut in 1982. Gil Grissom, Catherine Willows, Mac Taylor, Horatio Caine, “Bones” Brennan -- none of these would likely exist without Scarpetta, Quincy and Oliver leading the way. A Canadian program called “Wojeck” ran from 1966-68 and is considered by some to be the origin of it all.

Patricia Cornwell not only created and writes about Dr. Kay Scarpetta, but also wrote a fascinating book in which she claims to have solved the identity of Jack the Ripper. For twenty years there have been rumored film adaptations of the Scarpetta books, but none have ever reached fruition.

To the consternation of many Scarpetta fans, Angelina Jolie has been cast as the medical examiner for the latest Hollywood film deal. Maybe this one will happen, so she’s the one in the “Great Detectives” photo.
