Geocache Description:


Every station needs a geocache and here is one for Hairmyres. It's a micro found near to the station car park. A quick cache and dash whilst waiting for your train.





Hairmyres Station opened in 1868 and is managed by First ScotRail. It’s a popular station with passenger ticket sales increasing from 0.3 million in 2005 to 0.5 million in 2009. The station is on the Glasgow South Western line and is located 9 miles south of Glasgow in East Kilbride. Hairmyres Hospital is nearby where George Orwell was an in-patient from December 1947 – July 1948. He worked on his famous novel ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four' whilst in Hairmyres being treated for TB, completing the novel by December 1948.

You can access this cache either by parking in the station car park or right next to it in Eaglesham Court. It's residents' parking only, but for the two minutes it'll take you to find this, it shouldn't be a problem. The cache should be accessible to wheelchair users if you are able to reach to ground level.
