This cache is dedicated to lacruz18, i´m very thankful for a lot of great hikes on tenerife by visiting his geocaches.
I have a very special relationship to this mountain (was there 3 times in the past for caches of lacruz18). So now i placed this cache together with him on the highest point of Pico Viejo crater which gives you a specific view down the wide crater of Pico Viejo and the top of Teide, too.
Pico Viejo is a volcano located on the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). It is the second highest peak of Tenerife and the Canary Islands (after the Teide) with a height of 3,135 m above sea level. This volcano is part of the volcanic complex Teide-Pico Viejo formation which began about 200,000 years ago in the center of the island. Its crater, about 800 meters in diameter, is one of the satellites comprises craters around the Teide. In the year 1798 and was erupted calls Noses del Teide. The rash became the latest of which occurred within the Teide National Park and the longest historical eruption of Tenerife, throwing volcanic material for three months.
I suggest using "Sendero 9" guiding you with signs to Pico Viejo. The cache is very easy to find, but you will have an exhausting hike up the hill. Alternatively walk down from Teide after using Teleferico to come up. I think this is less exhausting, but the terrain is not easy, too.
Only use the official paths! Wear good hiking shoes, protect against sun, take warm clothes and a lot of water with you (3 or more litres)! Start the hike early in the morning, it is possible that you will need the whole day. Be careful, you should not go alone! Mobile phones will NOT work!
IMPORTANT: There is a second box with logbook at the top of the hill! So please make sure to log the cache and not (only) the summit book. The cache is NOT a metal box located in the large pile of rocks on the summit, but instead a small plastic box placed about 10 or more meters away a little off. See hint and spoiler picture!
