Petite balade ombragée pour découvrir une énigmatique chapelle noyée dans un écrin de verdure.

Du fait de sa position dominant la vallée de l’Ain, la colline fut probablement occupée depuis l’antiquité. Vers l’an 600 une communauté monastique y fonde un prieuré dédié à St-Sorlin (ou St-Saturnin), point de départ de l’installation d’un village fortifié. Vers l’an 1300, un château fort est construit par le sire de Clairvaux. Il reste encore des vestiges près du chemin d'accès.
En 1834, Elie Joseph Simonin, habitant le hameau voisin de Liefnans, décide de rebâtir seul une chapelle sur les vestiges de l’ancienne église de St-Sorlin où il vit quelques années en ermite.
Le site est bien entretenu et la porte reste toujours ouverte, comme une invitation à la méditation et au recueillement. Sur l’autel, un cahier pour recevoir vos états d'âme. La tradition veut aussi que le visiteur fasse tinter la cloche.

Short walk to discover a mysterious chapel buried in greenery.

Because of its position over the valley of the Ain, the hill was probably occupied since antiquity. Around 600 a monastic community founded a priory dedicated to St Sorlin (or St-Saturnin), starting point of the installation of a fortified village. Around the year 1300, a castle was built by the Lord of Clairvaux. There are still some ruins near the path.
In 1834, Elie Joseph Simonin from Liefnans, decided to rebuild the chapel on the ruins of the ancient church of St-Sorlin, where he lived for some years as a hermit.
The site is well maintained and the door remains open as an invitation to meditation and contemplation. The tradition is also that the visitor makes the bell ring.
