Ainda são muitos, os madeirenses que se lembram de saborear as Manteigas e Queijos produzidos em instalações, escavadas na rocha, aproveitando as suas grutas para a sua fabricação e acondicionamento. Era na "Fábrica da Manteiga" do Porto Moniz que tinham origem.
Na Vila do Porto Moniz, nos primórdios da sua criação, foi criada a Fábrica da Manteiga e queijos, produtos de alta qualidade, derivados do leite, ordenhado das vacas dos vários postos de recolha, inclusive da famosa Feira do Gado. Tratados e acondicionados na "Fábrica da Manteiga", instalações escavadas na rocha, aproveitando da melhor forma as grutas aí existentes, bem como as suas condições atmosféricas, mantendo a qualidade dos produtos.
A Cache
Esta é uma Multicache rápida, com apenas duas etapas. Os geocachers deverão deixar a viatura no waypoint indicado e seguir até as coordenadas indicadas, ali irão encontrar uma pequena placa relativa à vereda a qual tens os dados para responder à questão e assim obter as coordenadas para a etapa final, seguir pela vereda, junto ao poço de regadio. Ao longo do percurso poderão ver a entrada para as instalações da "Fábrica da Manteiga", escolpida na rocha para dentro das grutas. Não é aconselhável que se aventurem a lá entrar, pois o estado avançado de degradação poderá esconder riscos acrescidos, aconselho apenas a sua contemplação e que sigam viagem té á etapa final, onde encontrarão tambem as ruinas das instalações, de um antigo Moinho de água, servindo de apoio à referida fábrica bem como de ponto de armazem e distribuição dos referidos produtos.

The Butter Factory of Porto Moniz
Are still many Madeirans who remember tasting the butters and cheeses made in facilities, dug into the rock, taking advantage of their caves for their manufacturing and packaging. Along the way you will see the entrance to the premises of the "Butter factory", escavated in the rock inside the caves. It is not advisable to go there, because the advanced state of degradation can hide risks, I advise just their contemplation and follow trip to the final step, where you will find also the ruins of an ancient water mill, serving to support the refinery as well as warehouse and distribution point for these products.
