I was watching VH1’s 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders this evening. I’d hoped to get through it all, but I got really hungry and went out to get some dinner. I drove over to the Modern English cafe and got the turkey Melt. While I was waiting in line, I thought I saw my buddy Fred, and I was Right! He said he was feeling Too Sexy for the restaurant, and left abruptly. I was feeling sort of weird after eating the sandwich. I’m not sure if it was the Basil I didn’t ask for, or if someone slipped a Mickey into my drink. The woman at the table next to me ordered the Vanilla Ice cream, but her Baby didn’t like it as much as she did. And then there was the guy on the other side of me. He introduced himself as Lou, and he ordered the No. 5 and kept dancing the Mambo in front of his seat.
By the time I Got Back in my car, the Mix I had in the tape deck made me feel A-Lot better. I began to Play That Funky Music, and even the Cherry red dice on the dashboard were moving Wildly to the music. Suddenly the car stopped running. I yelled out “Come On” and did what anyone would do - I dexterously became a Midnight Runner and made my way home. It had been such a crazy evening that I got lost. I Hadd to find Away home and was feeling philosophical, pondering What Love is anyway. Eventually I made my way home, where the gas Men had Let The Dogs Out of the house.
What a night! I never did find out who sang those one hit wonders.
