Geocache Description:

St Margarets Church, Streatley

I have placed this cache here as it is a church I have visited and had many happy times here.
The church Can be found behind the pub.
The given coordinates are for the car park.

The cache is a black 35mm film canister only containing a log. You will need to bring your own writing implement.

Please note the final cache is hidden OUTSIDE the church grounds.

The church is the oldest building in the village and dates from about the fourteenth century. It has fallen into ruin twice in its history (probably due to the plague, the Enclosure Act and agricultural depression) and had to be restored.

The church is in the perpendicular style and has a chancel, nave, aisles and a western embattled tower which at this moment is having some restoration work.

One past vicar of note is the Reverend James Haddow who was vicar for 59 year and is buried in the churchyard. It is said that the churchyard is haunted by the ghost of James Haddow. On 13th Feb 2009 the haunting was investigated by the Luton Paranormal Society. Their report states that all their batteries lost charge but on returning home batteries were found to be fully charged. They thought this was due to the intense cold in the churchyard and consequent warming all items on returning home rather than anything supernatural.

Also buried in the churchyard is John Gibson, brother of Guy Gibson leader of the Dam Buster's Raid.

Please be respectful of the church and its surroundings.

To find the final cache you need to find the head stone of Wendy Sinclair nee Billington Smith.
  A - 9 - B9.........1D - C - 0E  which is close by the church entrance.

The final cache can now be found at North 51 56.(D-1)(D-E)B    West 000 26.CEA

Congratulations to GOGADGET for FTF.
