Vista para 3 Picos
Já à alguns anos, que passamos ao lado daquele monte em direcção ao Pico Ruívo e sempre pensamos: 'O que haverá por lá em cima?'
Claro que todos os Madeirenses e turistas conhecem o Pico Ruívo. É somente o ponto mais alto da Ilha da Madeira. Há também algumas caches por ali como o 'Homem em Pé' que começam o trilho até ao topo do pico e também que liga ao trilho que leva ao pico do Areeiro.
A nossa curiosidade aumentou quando vimos no Google Earth uma estrutura no topo daquele monte, o qual nos sugeria que fossem umas ruínas de uma antiga casa. Já agora, se alguém souber mais sobre aquela antiga construção, gostaríamos que partilhassem connosco para saber o que aquilo era antigamente.
Depois de subir aquele monte , e derivado ao facto de estar um dia brilhante, ficamos encantados e sem palavras ao ver a vista deslumbrante para os pontos mais emblemáticos da Madeira (Pico do Areeiro, Pico da Pedras e Pico Ruivo). Engraçado era olharmos para baixo e ver as pessoas a andarem no trilho para o Pico como se fossem formigas.
Uma vez que o trilho até à cache nem sempre é bem visível, optamos por pôr uns waypoints adicionais. Irá ajudar a busca em dias de nevoeiro e nublados.
A dificuldade do terreno é válido para a subida e descida pelos waypoints do lado Este no monte. Se querem subir e abordarem a cache pelo lado Oeste, tens que saber fazer escalada, no mínimo… Aí o terreno seria de 5 ou mais estrelas! As ruínas que existem no topo deste monte pertencem ao antigo observatório espacial da universidade de Oxford na Madeira. Dizem os entendidos que este é um dos melhores locais para esta observação na região. Na década de 70, esta zona era também utilizada por grupos de escaladores para acampar durante as suas aventuras.

Since years we passed that hill on our way to Pico Ruívo and always thought: 'What's up there?'
Of course every Madeirense and guest knows Pico Ruívo. It's the highest mountain of Madeira. And it's also provided with some caches from 'Homen em Pé' till the top and also on the trail to Pico do Areeiro.
Our nosiness got bigger when we saw on Google Earth a structure on top of that hill which looks like the ruin of a building. By the way, if anybody knows something about that building would be appreciated to learn what it was.
After we climbed that hill, and due to the fact that it was a brilliant day, we were speachless to have that view to the most known summits of Madeira. It was funny to look down and see all the people crawling like ants on the trail.
Because the trail to the cache is sometimes not really visible, we put some waypoints. They will help when it's foggy and cloudy.
The terrain difficulty is valid for the ascent and decent as per waypoints - east side. If you want to go up from the west, you have to do rock climbing at least. Then it's 5+. The ruins you can see there are the leftovers of an oberservatory of the Oxford university on Madeira. The experts said, it was one of the best places for their purposes of observation. In the 70s this area was also used by mountain walkers for camping during their adventure trips.
