GeoGuy: Je cache is door mij gearchiveerd in verband met het te lang op disabled staan.
Mocht de cache, of onderhoud van de cache, aan je aandacht ontsnapt zijn, en je de cache alsnog weer nieuw leven wilt inblazen, dan graag even een berichtje via email.
Als de cache binnen 3 maanden hersteld of herplaatst is, wil ik de cache wel terughalen uit het archief, mits deze aan de dan geldende voorwaarden voldoet.

De St. Jacobstraat en omgeving is één van de oudste delen van Goes. Tussen 1977 en 1981 werd dit gebied, als eerste in de stad Goes, grootschalig gerestaureerd. Een pleintje waar u langs komt heet Bocht van Guinea en hier kunt u aan de blauwe kinderkopjes zien hoe de bebouwing hier vroeger was.
In het jaar 1761 werd de naam voor het eerst gebruikt. De naam komt in meerdere steden voor en vaak in de buurt van een haven.
Neder- en Opper Guinea werden aan het begin van de 17de eeuw door de Hollanders op de Portugezen veroverd. Deze landstreken bevonden zich aan de westkust van Afrika, en stonden ook bekend als Goudkust. Langs de kust van deze voormalige koloniën bevinden zich tal van baaien en inhammen, die men ook wel bochten noemde. Aan de Bocht van Guinea was het fort St. George d’Elmina gebouwd. Dit fort werd in 1637 veroverd; vermoedelijk is men om dit feit te herdenken in tal van plaatsen de naam van de bocht voor straten en pleinen gaan gebruiken.
Te Goes kende men een Grote en een Kleine Bocht. In deze volksbuurt, die deel uitmaakte van de Armenhoek, woonde in vorige eeuwen de minder welgestelde bevolking. In een dergelijke buurt kwamen volkse figuren niet zelden voor. In 1873 bijvoorbeeld werd door een zekere vrouw Rijstepap een illegaal bordeel gedreven in de Bocht van Guinea.

St. Jacobstraat and surroundings are among the oldest parts of Goes. Big restoration works took place here between 1977 and 1981. A square along the route of the cache is called Bocht van Guinea. The blue cobble stones show where the buildings were in history.
The name was first used in 1761. The name appears in more cities, often nearby a harbour.
In the beginning of the 17th century, the Dutch conquered Lower and Upper Guinea from the Portuguese. The areas, also known as the Goldcoast, were located on the West coast of Africa. Along the coast of the former colonies are numerous bays and inlets, which are also known as 'bochten' (curves). At the Bocht van Guinea a fort was built, Fort St. George d'Elmina. In 1637 this fort was conquered. It's presumed that, to commemorate this, many cites started to use the name for streets and squares.
Goes used to have a 'Grote bocht' and a 'Kleine bocht'. The neighbourhood used to be one of the poorest of the city. It's likely that in neighbourhoods like these many less-prosperous people were living. In 1873, a women called 'mevrouw Rijstepap' (miss Rice porridge) was running an illegal brothel here.
