Geocache Description:

***First to Find Congratulations to Wander-Schnecken***

**Note 28.12.13** The castle is currently closed to visitors trapping the original cache inside. I have placed this small magnetic micro outside of the gates until it reopens. Please let me know in your log if you see that it has reopened.

This original cache is located in an area of the castle (possibly) mentioned in the Shakespeare play, Othello. The Moor was a Venetian commander, sent by his masters to Cyprus, where "The fortitude of the place is well known to you." The Citadel guards the Sea Gate, one of only two original gates in the walls, built by the Venetians in 1496. Before the events of 1974, cruise ships would stop at the port of Famagusta, and the first sight greeting visitors was the impressive Citadel or Othello's Tower. Take a torch if you can. (You don't need it to find the cache but some corners of the castle are a bit dark and a torch will help you explore them in full.)
