The only problem with the nearby Horsepath is that it has high banks and big trees, so the views are not particularly extensive. This path heads up the open hill and gives really excellent views of the nearby area and further afield. It's not possible to link back to the Horsepath, please follow the path to Well Heads Lane or return to the western end of the Tunnel.
The view west opens out because you are now high enough to see over the ridge north of Hincaster Hall. Whitbarrow and the flatlands, then the High Newton ridge. Further round and the Coniston Fells come into view. Sizergh Castle can be seen, more hills and so on. Due to the lumpy nature of the local terrain, views are always limited unless you mount one of the lumps and Tunnel Hill is a good place to appreciate the larger neighborhood.
You may notice that as you head up the path you pass above the tunnel, just by the top of the western portal. Looking over the edge shows the overgrown channel leading into the sharp turn by the old warehouse, now a home.
