O ponto de partida situa-se na estrada que liga Santana ao Parque Florestal das Queimadas (ver waypoint e foto), a poucas centenas de metros depois de passar pelas últimas casas, onde esta se cruza com a levada da Silveira. O percurso (ida e volta) tem cerca de 10 km, sendo o terreno plano e fácil, no entanto é preciso ter em atenção à existência de algumas zonas de piso escorregadio, principalmente no inverno, e de zonas de precipício (sem varanda), não indicadas para pessoas com vertigens. Deve considerar ainda a existência de um túnel de 150 mts de comprimento, para o qual se recomenda o uso de lanterna.
The starting point is located on the road that goes from Santana to the Forest Park of Queimadas (see waypoint and photo). A few hundred meters after you pass through the last houses of the locality you will find on the right side of the road the water channel (locally known as Levada). Start your walk here. It will take you across this Levada along ca. 10 km (full round trip). The terrain is flat and easy, however you must be aware of the existence of some slippery areas, especially in winter, and several cliffs (without balcony), not recommended for people with vertigo. You should also consider the existence of a tunnel of 150 meters long for which it is recommended the use of a flashlight.

Sobre a Levada / About the Levada
A levada da Silveira transporta a água desde a Ribeira dos Arcos até às terras do Lombo de Antão e do Sitio da Silveira. O primeiro quilómetro do percurso revela a existência de uma floresta essencialmente constituída por eucaliptos (Eucalyptus globulus), acácias (Acacia longifolia) e pinheiros bravos (Pinus pinaster).
The Levada da Silveira transports water from the Ribeira dos Arcos to the lands of Lombo de Antão and Sitio da Silveira. The first kilometer of the journey reveals the existence of a forest mainly consisting of Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), Golden Wattle (Acacia longifolia) and pines (Pinus pinaster).

Depois de passarmos por algumas zonas agrícolas, a paisagem de floresta exótica vai sendo substituída por espécies indígenas, como o folhado (Clethra arborea), o loureiro (Laurus novocanariensis) e o til (Ocotea foetens), e nos terrenos que circundam as linhas de água que se cruzam com a levada, são uma presença constante as cavalinhas (Equisetum telmateia) e os vimeiros (Salix viminalis). As aves fazem-se representar pelo tentilhão (Fringilla coelebs maderensis), pela ave mais pequena do arquipélago, o bis-bis (Regulus madeirensis) e pelo pombo-trocaz (Columba trocaz).
After passing by some agricultural areas, the landscape of exotic forest is replaced by native species, such as Lily of the Valley tree (Clethra arborea), Laurel (Laurus novocanariensis) and Til (Ocotea foetens). The Great Horsetail plant (Equisetum telmateia) and Salix (Salix viminalis) are constant species present in the lands surrounding the water lines that intersect with the Levada. The birds are also present along the rail and are represented by the Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs maderensis), the Firecrest (Regulus madeirensis, the smallest bird in the Archipelago) and the Long-toed Wood Pigeon (Columba trocaz).

Ainda antes de encontrar um túnel, poderá avistar ao fundo, em primeiro plano, a povoação da Achada do Marques e em segundo plano a igreja e as casas da freguesia da Ilha. A partir deste ponto, e principalmente depois de atravessar o túnel, todo o ecossistema envolvente é magnífico. Ficamos rodeados por uma densa floresta Laurissilva dominada pelo verde das copas dos vinháticos (Persea indica), tis e loureiros, que nos acompanham até à madre da levada da Silveira, localizada num dos afluentes da ribeira dos Arcos.
Even before you find a tunnel, you may spot in the small locality of Achada do Marques (foreground) and the church and houses of the parish of Ilha. From this point, and especially after going through the tunnel, the entire surrounding ecosystem is magnificent. We get surrounded by a dense laurel forest dominated by the green canopy of Madeira Mahogany (Persea indica), Til and Laurel, which accompanying us until the origin of Levada da Silveira, located on a feeder stream of the Ribeira dos Arcos.

A cache / The cache
Depois de chegar à madre da levada da Silveira, na Ribeira dos Arcos, procure a cache! Restrinja a sua pesquisa na margem direita; não precisa de atravessar a ribeira para encontra-la. O sinal de GPS é fraco neste local, pelo que deve recorrer à “pista” e... esticar o seu braço. Depois de fazer o seu log regresse ao ponto de partida pelo mesmo percurso.

After arriving at the origin of Levada da Silveira in Ribeira dos Arcos, look for the cache! Restrict your search on the right side of the water flow, to find the cache you do not need to cross the river. The GPS signal is weak on this site so you should use the “hint” and... extend your arm. After making your log return to the starting point using the same route.
