New access to the cache
The door to the stairs has been permanently blocked ( see photo 1 )
One of the windows to access the cache has been permanently blocked too - and the other two windows will also be blocked permanently within the next few weeks ( see photo 2 )
How to access the cache in a safe manner in the future:
Use the door in the previous watchtower (watchtower 2 - see photo 3 ). Coordinates: N40 25.756 E116 34.021 and walk along the wall to the cache coordinates (approx. 100 m).
I visited the GWOC with a Chinese guide and he spoke to the GWOC security staff. He told them that foreigners might come and want to exit the watchtower to go and search for "something" (he did not reveal the hiding place of the cache).
They confirmed that this is OK - but you must remember your entrance ticket and be able to present it when you return to the watch tower - otherwise they will not let you in again.
Original Cache Description (Archived)
After finding the cache, if you continue pass the "No Admittance" sign (on the far end) into the section that's not opened to public, surprises are awaiting for you. Enter at your own risk.
The Great Wall of China more than twice as long as thought
Recent study estimated that the Great Wall of China is twice the length as previously thought it to be, making it almost 21,000km in all. Come experience one of my favorite section, the Mutianyu Great Wall. It's very scenic hidden deep in the mountain and villages, however it's not far from Beijing and is alot less crowded than the infamous Badaling Great Wall.
