Tato Earthcache vás přivádí k pracovišti Českého geologického ústavu a výstavy hornin v předzahrádce.
Posláním České geologické služby (bývalého Českého geologického ústavu), jejíž historie sahá do roku 1919, je výkon státní geologické služby v České republice. Česká geologická služba sbírá a zpracovává údaje o geologickém složení státního území a předává je správním orgánum pro politická, hospodářská a ekologická rozhodování. Poskytuje všem zájemcům regionální geologické informace.
Brněnská pobočka sídlí na adrese Leitnerova 22.
U budovy je volně přístupná výstava hornin pocházejících z nejbližšího okolí Brna.
Geologie okolí Brna je velmi pestrá. Probíhá zde hranice mezi dvěma významnými geologickými celky - Českým masivem a Karpaty, které se lší stářím, vývojem i morfologií terénu. Nejstarší část je starohorní Brněnský masiv, který vznikal až před 600 miliony let a je tvořen vyvřelinami a metamorfovanými horninami. Dělí se na tři části - západní a východní a je tvořena hlavně granodiority, mezi nimi je starší relikt oceánské kůry metabazitový.
Brněnský masiv je doplněn prvohorními a druhohorními usazeninami (vápence a slepence).

This Earthcache is taking you to the Czech Geological Survey and the exhibition of rock in its front garden.
The Czech Geological Survey (CGS), whose history started in 1919, has evolved during the almost 90 years of its existence into an internationally recognized research institute covering a wide range of geo-scientific topics and services both in the Czech Republic and overseas. The Czech Geological Survey collects and evaluates information about the geology of the Czech state territory and provides it to state authorities for their political, economic, and environmental decision-making. The main fields of expertise include geological mapping and research, study of mineral resources and their economic potential, mining impact assessment, geochemistry, environmental studies, applied geology, hydrogeology, natural hazards, geo-data management, and GIS.
The Brno branch is located at 22, Leitnerova street.
Next to the building is a free accesible exhibition of rocks from the nearest surroundings of Brno.
The geological conditions within the surroundings of Brno are considerably varied, mainly owing to the fact that there runs the boundary between two significant geological units, the Bohemian massif and the Carpathians, both of which are of different ages, development, and terrain morphology. The oldest portion of this region is the proterozoic Brno massif, which evolved approximately 600 million years ago and consists of plutonite and metamorphosed rock. The massif can be divided into three parts, namely the western and the eastern sections, which are mainly composed of granodiorites, and the central region constituting an older metabasite relict of the oceanic crust.
Moreover, the Brno massif contains paleozoic and mesozoic sediments (limestones and conglomerates).

Úkol na místě:
a) Prohlédněte si důkladně vystavené slepence a seřaďte je podle velikosti valounů, ze kterých se skládají
b) Seřaďte vystavené slepence od nejstaršího do nejmladšího
Úkol pro domácí samostudium:
c) Odhadněte ve kterých z následujících hornin by bylo možno najít zkameněliny: metabazalt, slepence, vápence. Proč si to myslíte?
d) Odhadněte ve které z vystavených hornin by bylo možno nalézt biotit (slídu)?
e) Napište jak jsou podle genetického hlediska zatříděné metabazalt a granodiorit.
Fotografický úkol:
f) bude vítané, když k logu připojíte snímek vás s horninou, která vás zaujala.
Prosím, odpovědi na otázky nepište do logu, ale zašlete je předem e-mailem přes profil. Poté můžete ihned zaznamenat do logu svůj nález. Pokud by byly ve vašich odpovědích chyby, ozvu se. Pokud budu nespokojen a nebudete reagovat, nebo odpovědi nepošlete vůbec, tak log skutečně smažu!

b) Order the exhibited conglomerates by their ages, from the oldest to the youngest.
Self-study task:
c) ) Guess at the piece of rock that might contain fossils such as metabasalt, conglomerates, limestone. Why was this rock your choice?
d) Guess which piece of rock shown in the front garden might contain biotite (glimmer)?
e) Write the genetic classification of metabasalt and granodiorite.
Photo task:
f) You are invited to complete the logo with a photo shot of you and the rock that captured your interest.
