De bonnes chaussures sont également nécessaires et les tongs à proscrire: SOYEZ PRUDENTS !!! Rougon, village discret situé au-dessus du Point Sublime tutoie l’entrée du grand canyon et le couloir Samson. Rougon n’est pas un lieu de passage, la route qui y conduit n’est que pour lui. C’est une voie sans issue. Le calme accompagne ainsi le résident comme le touriste qui, après s’être arrêté au Point Sublime, parcours les ruelles ombragées et fraîches de ce village si haut perché qu’est Rougon. Les historiens sont divisés sur l’interprétation des vestiges situés au dessus de Rougon et qui témoignent de la présence humaine depuis bien des siècles voire des millénaires. Quoi qu’il en soit, Rougon apparaît dans un premier écrit en 814. Comme bien des villages des alentours, les populations seront successivement, en fonction des victoires et des défaites, sous la domination des romains, des barbares, des mérovingiens … Plus près de nous, au moyen age, les moines de St Victor de Marseille, qui nous ont laissés de précieux documents (inventaires) seront gestionnaires des territoires du Verdon (entre autre) avant de devoir les confier moyennant finances aux seigneurs successifs plus ou moins belliqueux ! Ceux de Rougon le furent probablement plus que les autres pour étendre leur territoire au-delà de frontières naturelles que sont le Verdon et le Baou . Les Rougonnais en sont aujourd’hui les heureux héritiers de se territoire de plus de 35 km² ! Ils étaient 129 habitants en 2011. Au XVIIIe siècle les moines redeviendront propriétaires de ces espaces pendant une soixantaine d’années : ils ne sont plus de l’abbaye de St Victor de Marseille mais de l’abbaye de Lérins qui fut un berceau religieux particulièrement florissant et brillant tant intellectuellement que spirituellement. La révolution de 1789 mettra fin à ces liens à la fois économiques, culturels et religieux.. Il ne nous reste que peux de traces de cette histoire si ce n’est les ruines situées sur le rocher dominant le village de Rougon et bien malin qui peut dire avec certitude s’il s’agissait d’un château fort ou d’une simple tour de garde, chacun est libre de se faire sa propre opinion en fonction de son imaginaire. On trouve également des traces de voies dites romaines sur certaines calades, des ponts moult fois emportés par les crues et reconstruits. Lorsque vous avez fait la cache du Point Sublime, la route de Rougon est face à la sortie du parking. Grimpez les 3 km puis garez-vous sur la petite place pour monter jusqu'au château.
