Kätkön löytäminen tuottaa eniten iloa jos sää on hyvä ja ei ole tulenpalavaa hoppua kätköltä pois. Kätkön läheltä nimittäin avautuu Vainikkalan maisematarjonnan ehdotonta parhaimmistoa. You can get the most out of this cache if the weather is good and you are not in a huge rush to go back home, since you can delight in one of the absolute best sceneries of Vainikkala.
Tälle kätkölle kannattaa lähteä hyvissä maastovarusteissa vaikka siirtymätaival ei mitään erityistä extremeä olekaan. Kätkön löytäminen tuottaa eniten iloa jos sää on hyvä ja ei ole tulenpalavaa hoppua kätköltä pois. Kätkön läheltä nimittäin avautuu Vainikkalan maisematarjonnan ehdotonta parhaimmistoa. Moottorikäyttöinen ajoneuvo tulee pysäköidä Niemenkyläntien varteen. Toisesta suunnasta lammen läheisyyteen johtavalle yksityistielle ei ole kysytty maanomistajilta lupaa. Patikoiden ja polkupyörällä liikuttaessa tietä voi käyttää. Tätä kätköä en suosittele sadesäällä etsittäväksi. Kätkö on kallioalueella ja liukastumisen vaara on olemassa. Vähälumisina talvina kätkö on tavoitettavissa, mutta jos lunta on paljon, suosittelen odottamaan kevään tuloa. Uitonpäänlammen nimen alkuperää on arvailtu, ja saattaapa siitä jotain faktatietoakin olla saatavissa. On kerrottu että ”uitonpää” tarkoittaa puun uittoreitin päätä, tarkemmin määriteltynä reitin alkupäätä. Uitonpäänlammen länsipäästä johtaa lyhyt oja viereiseen Niemijärveen, ja Niemijärvestä pidempi oja Rakkolanjoen vesistöön kuuluvaan Alajokeen. Uitto on ainakin teoriassa ollut mahdollista. Niemenkyläntietä on korotettu 5-10 metriä jolloin lammen ja Niemijärven välinen avo-oja korvattiin siltarummulla. Uitonpäänlammen etelärannan massiivinen kallio oli 60-80 luvuilla suosittu kesänpäivän viettopaikka etenkin kylän nuorison keskuudessa. Uitonpäässä käytiin uimassa ja otettiin aurinkoa kallion päällä. Kallion reunalta oli rakennettu puuportaat alhaalle olevalle kielekkeelle. Kielekkeeltä lähdettiin uimaan ja portailta hypättiin veteen. Rohkeimmat hyppäsivät ylhäältä pää edellä. Veden syvyys kallion juuressa on 3-4 metriä. Vanhoista 70-luvulla tehdyistä portaista on vielä riekaleet jäljellä. Uitonpäänlammen pikkusaari on kelluva ja se on ankkuroitu nykyiselle paikalleen. Saarta asuttaa alkukesällä lokkipariskunta. You can get the most out of this cache if the weather is good and you are not in a huge rush to go back home, since you can delight in one of the absolute best sceneries of Vainikkala. Engine powered vehicles must be parked on Niemenkyläntie (Niemenkylä road), because there is no permission from the land owner to park on the private road leading to the pond. The private road can be used for reaching the cache by foot or bicycle. I do not recommend finding the cache when it is raining. The cache is hidden in a rocky area and thus there is a potential risk of slipping. You may find the cache in winter if there is not much snow, but with heavy snow winters it is better to wait until spring. People have tried to guess the origin of the name Uitonpäänlampi, and there might indeed be some facts about it too. It has been told that “uitonpää” means the end of timber rafting route, more specifically the beginning of it. There is a short ditch leading from the western end of the pond until the neighboring Niemijärvi, and a longer ditch from Niemijärvi until Alajoki, which belongs to Rakkolanjoki water system. Rafting has at least in theory been possible. Niemenkyläntie has been raised by 5-10 meters and the open ditch between the pond and Niemijärvi was replaced by a culvert at the same time. The massive cliff in the southern part of Uitonpäänlampi was a popular place for spending summer days from the 60s until 80s, especially among the young people. People went to the pond to swim and sun bathe on top of the cliff. There were wooden stairs leading from the edge of the cliff down to the ledge underneath. It was possible to go swimming from the ledge and people used to jump to the water from the stairs. The bravest of all jumped head first. At the bottom of the cliff the depth of the water is about 3-4 meters. Nowadays there are some remains left of the old wooden stairs built in the 70s. There is a small floating island in the middle of the pond, which has now been anchored to its current place. A seagull couple inhabits the island in the beginning of summer.
