This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. In the late 19th century Richard Davis was the lock tender here and had a common law marriage with the daughter of store owner. He is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill.
This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. In the woods at Yankee Hill, across from Putman’s Canal Store, you will find the remains of the Lock Tender’s house. In the late 19th century Richard Davis was the lock tender here and had a common law marriage with the daughter of store owner. He is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill. His grave is just a weathered crude store, not a nice granite monument. His ancestors from Arizona stopped at Schoharie Crossing about five years ago.
Easy access from the parking lot and the bike trail. Watch for muggles. Use stealth. The items in the cache are park souvenirs and do not need to be replaced with a trade item.
