Geocache Description:

A simple church nano near the grade 2 listed St Mary of Bethany Church in Woking.

Rev William Frederick Tucker Hamilton, vicar at Christ Church in Woking and a wealthy man, paid for the building of this church after his wife died and he suffered a bout of illness. It was his parting gift to an expanding town when he moved to Cromer in 1905.

The foundation stone was laid in 1906 and the church was consecrated in 1907. The architect was W D Caröe, famous for his “Arts and Crafts” style of house design and the church follows the style, being noted for its large windows and light and airy interior. In 1907 it was an early user of electricity for lighting. Caröe's design allowed for later north and south aisles and a baptistry with main entrance on the west wall. The north aisle was included in the initial building but the other additions were never built.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
