Urodziny EarthCachea! - 10 stycznia 2014 to dokładnie dziesięciolecie powstania tego niepowtarzalnego kesza. Idea quizu geologicznego została opracowana przez australijskiego geologa, Gary’ego Lewisa (GeoAware), we współpracy z Geological Society of America. EarthCache, jak wiecie, opowiadają o geologicznym rozwoju naszej planety; kształcie terenu, rodzajach skał, przemianach zachodzących w skorupie ziemskiej. Ogólnie mówiąc kręcą się wokół geologii. Pierwszy z nich Gary opublikował na terenie Australii (Gary żyje i pracuje obecnie w USA): EarthCache I - a simple geology tour of Wasp Head.
EarthCache jest samodzielnym typem kesza na portalu geocaching.com. Jego listing może być odpowiednikiem kesza tradycyjnego lub multaka. Przed publikacją kesze te sprawdzane są przez osobną "kastę" reviewerów - tzw. GeoAware. Podany na końcu ksywki skrót zdradza, jakim krajem lub regionem dany reviewer się zajmuje. W Polsce tego zadania podjął się GeoAwarePL - którego również spotkacie na tym historycznym evencie.
Sam event jest "wydaniem specjalnym"! Odbędzie się bowiem na terenie Muzeum Geologicznego przy Państwowym Instytucie Geologicznym w Warszawie. Tę przyjemność zawdzięczamy dyrektorowi PGI, prof. dr hab. Jerzemu Nawrockiemu oraz kierownikowi Muzeum, dr Piotrowi Szrekowi.

Szczegółowy program eventu zostanie podany niebawem - jest jeszcze ustalany. Już teraz mogę zdradzić, że między innymi dr Piotr Szrek opowie nam, jak doszło do odkrycia najstarszych na świecie śladów tetrapoda ichthyostega, zwierzęcia pośredniego między rybą a płazem i pierwszego czworonoga, który wyszedł z wody na ląd. Odkrycia w Zachełmiu dokonali Grzegorz Niedźwiedzki, Piotr Szrek, Katarzyna Narkiewicz, Marek Narkiewicz i Per E. Ahlberg. W kamieniołomie w Zachełmiu, jeśli pogoda dopisze, będzie można 11.01.14 zdobyć 5-6 EarthCaches opublikowanych specjalnie na tę okazję!
Poza tym oczekuje Was indywidualny souvenir tej imprezy, pamiątkowy dyplom i... kilka innych atrakcji. Również Gary, w imieniu Geological Society of America i jej programu EarthCache.org zapowiedział przesłanie na tą okazję... pamiątki dla wszystkich uczestników! Prelekcje będą również - dla naszych zagranicznych przyjaciół - prowadzone po angielsku. Czeka Was więc weekend z geologią ;)

EarthCache Brithday! January 10, 2014 is the tenth anniversary of the creation of this unique Geocache. The man who came up with the idea of a geological quiz is Gary Lewis (GeoAware), in cooperation with the Geological Society of America. As you know, the main goal of EarthCaches is to tell us about the geological development of our planet, landforms, types of rocks and all the changes the Earth’s crust is undergoing. Generally speaking, they are all geology-related. The first Earthcache in history was published in Australia by Gary and his two daughters (currently, Gary lives and works in the US): Earthcache I - a simple geology tour of Wasp Head.
An EarthCache is a separate type of Geocaches that can be found at the geocaching.com website. Its listing is similar to that of a traditional cache or a multicache. Before publication, EarthCaches are verified by a separate “caste” of reviewers – the so-called GeoAware. Abbreviations at the end of their nicknames tell which country or region is under each reviewer’s supervision. The reviewer for Poland is GeoAwarePL – you will get to know him during this memorable event.
The event will be an „anniversary special” – it will take place in the Geological Museum of the Polish Geological Institute in Warsaw, courtesy of the Director of PGI, prof. Jerzy Nawrocki, PhD, and the head of the Museum – Piotr Szrek, PhD.
A detailed program of the event is to be announced soon – we are still working on it. I can tell you that – amoung other attractions – there will be a lecture given by dr Piotr Szrek on the topic of his discovery of the world’s oldest traces of an Ichtyostega tetrapod – a transitional lifeform between fish and amphibians, the first tetrapod to leave the water environment and start living on land. The discovery in Zachełmie was made by Grzegorz Niedźwiedzki, Piotr Szrek, Katarzyna Narkiewicz, Marek Narkiewicz and Per E. Ahlberg. On January 11, 2014, if the weather allows it, you will have the opportunity to visit 5-6 EarthCaches created in the quarry in Zachełmie for that occasion!
There will be also other surprises awaiting you – a special souvenir, a certificate of participation, as well as several other attractions. Gary – on behalf of the Geological Society of America – promised to send us… special souvenirs for all participants! The speeches will be also given in English for our friends from abroad.

EarthCache-Geburtstag mitfeiern! - Am 10. Januar 2014 feiern wir das 10-jährige Bestehen dieses einmaligen Geologie-Quizes. Das Konzept des EarthCaches wurde von dem australischen Geologen, Gary Lewis (GeoAware), in Zusammenarbeit mit der Geological Society of America entwickelt. Wie ihr wisst, erzählen EarthCaches die spannende Geschichte unseres Planeten: Struktur und Verformung seiner Oberfläche, sein innerer Aufbau sowie Prozesse, die ihn formten und auch heute noch formen. Es dreht sich einfach alles um Geologie. Der erste EC wurde von Gary und seinen zwei Töchtern am 10. Januar 2004 in Australien "gelegt": EarthCache I - a simple geology tour of Wasp Head.
Die Sonderlinge haben weder eine Dose noch ein Logbuch. Als eigenständige Caches bringen sie einen an geologisch interessante Orte, wo die grauen Zellen den Job übernehmen... sollten. EarthCaches werden vor der Freischaltung von einer "speziellen Kaste" von Reviewern überprüft, den Geoawares. Abkürzungen am Ende des Nicknames verraten den Zuständigkeitsbereich des Reviewers. In Polen macht diesen Job GeoAwarePL - den ihr bei diesem Event persönlich treffen werdet.
Das Event ist durchaus eine "Sonderausgabe"! Es findet im Geologischen Museum des Polnischen Geologie-Institutes in Warschau statt. Dies verdanken wir der freundlichen Unterstützung seitens des Direktors vom PGI, Prof. Dr. hab. Jerzy Nawrocki und des Museumsdirektors, Dr. Piotr Szrek.
Das Programm wird bald detailliert mitgeteilt - wir besprechen noch dies und jenes. Schon jetzt darf gesagt werden, dass unter anderem Dr. Piotr Szrek uns die Geschichte seiner spannenden Entdeckung erzählt: Die weltweit ältesten Spuren des Tetrapoda ichthyostega; eines Tieres, das als erstes Wesen sowohl im Wasser wie auch auf dem Land lebte. Die Spuren wurden im Steinbruch Zachełmie von Grzegorz Niedźwiedzki, Piotr Szrek, Katarzyna Narkiewicz, Marek Narkiewicz und Per E. Ahlberg entdeckt. Im Steinbruch Zachełmie, sollte das Wetter mitspielen, werdet ihr am 11.01.14 fünf bis sechs EarthCaches holen können, die extra aus diesem Anlass am selben Tag publiziert werden!
Ansonsten gibt es ein Event-Souvenir fürs Profil, eine Urkunde und... paar andere Sachen. Auch Gary, im Namen der Geological Society of America und des Programms EarthCache.org versprach, etwas Besonderes... für euch alle vorzubereiten! Die "EC-Vorlesungen" - unseren ausländischen Gästen entgegenkommend - werden auch auf Englisch angeboten. Tja, so wie es aussieht, erwartet euch ein wahres Geologie-Wochenende ;)
