1877. gada 21. septembrī tika atklāta dzelzceļa līnija dzelzceļa līnija Rīga—Tukums.[1] Tajā pat gadā tika pabeigta pirmā Tukuma pilsētas dzelzceļa stacija Tukums I, kas tobrīd saucās Austrumu stacija. 1904. gadā dzelzceļa līnija tika pagarināta līdz Jelgavai. Šajā pat gadā tika pabeigta stacija Tukums II. Pēc četriem gadiem dzelzceļš tika pagarināts līdz Ventspilij. Vienstāva stacijas ēkas ir celta no koka un šobrīd tā ir jau vairāk kā gadsimtu veca. Pirmā un Otrā pasaules kara laikā stacijas ēka necieta. 1941. gada un 1949. gada masveida izsūtīšanu laikā šeit tika komplektēti un turēti vagoni ar deportējamiem, kuri no šejienes uzsāka ceļu uz Rīgu un tālāk uz Krievijas PFSR. Piemiņai par šiem notikumiem 1989. gadā netālu no stacijas ēkas tika izveidots Piemiņas ansamblis represētajiem, kur ik gadu pulcējas izsūtītie un cilvēki, kuri vēlas pieminēt šos notikumus.
