On est ici sur les traces d'un personnage célèbre le Marquis de la Rouërie. Armand Tuffin de la Rouërie est né à Fougères le 13 avril 1751.
En février 1777, il s'embraque à Nantes pour l'Amérique, afin de prendre part à la guerre d'Indépendance des colonies révoltées contre le roi d'Angleterre. Héros épris d'idées de liberté et d'égalité entre les hommes, le 'Colonel Armand' va pendant 6 ans étonner ses alliés et rapporte d'Amérique le titre de Brigadier général.
Cette expérience acquise lui servira dans la préparation d'une autre guerre de libération qui sera celle de la Chouannerie. Il devient chef de l'Association bretonne ou 'contre-révolution'. De 1790 à 1792, c'est un homme traqué, qui erre de cache en cache pour continuer son action. Malgré les 3 médecins appelés à son chevet, le Marquis décède au château de la Guyomarais dans la nuit du 29 janvier 1793. Il faut se hâter de faire disparaître le corps. On décide de l'enterrer dans le bois à l'Est du château. En février, les révolutionnaires découvrent sa tombe, ouvrent la fosse, décapitent le cadavre et combe d'horreur, vont jeter la tête du Marquis aux pieds de Mme de la Guyomarais
