Geocache Description:

A multi cache, to explore the island of Alderney.

This cache has been placed by oleonard, a long-time holiday visitor to this lovely island. It's another in the series of caches around the island, which I have enjoyed exploring. There are _many_ places to hide a cache on this island, and this cache will allow you to explore just two of my favorites.

I have been encouraged to place this cache by local cacher, Casimer, who has placed some good ones, which I encourage you to explore. Casimer has kindly agreed to take ownership of this cache once the listing has been enabled.

This cache is a multi. That means that the listed co-ordinates bear no relation to the final cache GZ location. Instead, the co-ords listed here will take you to a busy part of Braye, where you are looking for the world-famous Alderney Railway. I do not encourage you to walk on the railway, it is possible to read the clue without setting foot on the line. Specifically, you are looking for the railway sleepers (traverses de chemin de fer, pour vous cachers francais). On the sleepers, you will find a set of characters, which read:

"PAT NO
XXXXXX"

Well, they don't really say "XXXXXX", they have a number, and that number forms the basis of a clue.

There are many, many different sleepers, all with this number. Some are easier to read than others. If it's not clear, keep looking, there are some clear ones. The sum of all six numbers is 35.

The first number has the value "A"
The second number has the value "B"...and so on.

If the numbers were "123456", then A=1, B=2. But the numbers are not 123456. Find them out, then solve this:

The co-ordinates of the final cache (GZ):
N49° (C-D)(D-E).(D+E)(A-D)C
W002° (B-A)E.(A-D)(D+E)B

The GZ (final location) is a good walk away from the railway sleepers and should take between 30 and 45 minutes. The path to the GZ is fairly easy, but not wheelchair accessible, sorry. The easiest approach is from the west. An Ordnance Survey map will help plan your route, alternatively, trust the GPS arrow.

When you arrive at the GZ, ensure that there are no muggles around. You will not be able to reach this undetected if others are present. I can't write more about the GZ, because you'd be able to work out where it is!

The cache container initially is a medium sized clip lock box.
