Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Ojito Wilderness Study Area. It is moderate terrain at an altitude of 5,815 ft.

Take Highway 550 towards Cuba, and turn on Cabezon Rd., just past Mile Marker 21 south of San Ysidro. Take the left fork and drive through the Zia Indian Reservation. The BLM has an agreement with the Pueblo to allow access. When you get to the fence (4 miles) marking the beginning of the Wilderness Study Area, go another 5.5 miles to coordinates: N 35 29.791' W 106 53.905'

This is where you should park off the right side of the road. This is the same parking spot as used for the Ojito Desert Cache. There are no marked trails and depending on the route taken the hike to the cache is about a mile, one way. From the parking spot begin a relatively level hike to a rock cairn at N 35 29.980’ W 106 53.632’ To avoid a difficult crossing of a deep arroyo go northeast from the rock cairn to the base of the mesa. Skirt the mesa in a clockwise direction to avoid unnecessary elevation gains.

This is a remote area so take water! Be careful to watch your step and your footing, and remember that there could be rattlesnakes in the area. Hiking boots are highly recommended.

Also, you can locate the Ojito Desert Cache by going northwest on the cow path from the rock cairn.
