Balaruc le vieux : Village médiéval
Au sein de ses remparts restaurés, l'ancien village conserve quelques souvenirs du temps passé. Sa forme typique à la géométrie circulaire est caractéristique de l'urbanisation languedocienne du moyen âge et lui vaut l'appellation de CIRCULADE.
De la place du Truc (en occitan, désigne un escarpement), on peut admirer la vue panoramique sur le bassin de Thau et la campagne environnante.
Du château médiéval placé au centre du village, il ne reste que quelques pans de murs. Les portes de la ville ont disparu, mais, rue du presbytère, on remarque le départ d'un arc en plein cintre appartenant à la porte de Montepllier.
L'église paroissiale de saint-Maurice (XIème siècle) et les voûtes du XIVème siècle représentent un parfait exemple de l'architecture médiévale.
Une très courte balade vous permettra de récolter les indices (faciles) pour atteindre la finale; finale d'où vous aurez une belle vue sur Balaruc
Embedded within its restored remparts, the old village still features remains of its past. Its circular layout is typical of town planning in the Middle Ages in the Languedoc region. The village is therefore referred to as a CIRCULADE.
From the "place du "Truc" (truc steep slope in Occitan Language), visitors can enjoy the panoramic view over the Thau Lagoon and the surrounding countryside.
All that remains of the medieval castle of the centre are a few sections of walls. The gates of the city no longer exist but, on rue du Presbytère (Presbytery Street), visitors can notice the base of a semicircular arch, belonging undoubtedly to the Gate of Montpellier.
The Eglise paroissiale Saint Maurice (St Maurice parish church, 11C) and the 14C vaults are fine examples of mediaval architecture.
An short walk will allow you to pick up very easy indications in order to reach the finale cache where from you will have a beautiful sight on Balaruc.
