[LAT] Slēpnis tapis pateicoties manam draugam -
makšķerniekam & putnu fotogrāfam Jānim , kurš pastāstīja un parādīja šo vietu ...
[ENG] Thanks to my friend - angler & bird photographer Janis, who showed the place and told about it ...

[LAT] Slēpnis ir ~0.9l Lock&Lock veida kastīte. Tā atrodas kādas Briežu māju ēkas drupās.
NEKAS NAV JĀĀRDA!
[ENG] The cache itself is ~ 0.9l Lock&Lock type box. It's hidden in the ruins of Briezhi house.
NO NEED TO DEMOLISH ANYTHING!

[LAT]

Mill had already collapsed before the house Briezhi abandoned

Vasarā, pie zema ūdens līmeņa, var šķērsot Ventu no otra krasta pa braslu - tā sanāk daudz tuvāk.
Makšķerniekiem šis slēpnis varētu patikt visu gadu :)

Map shows the old road and the manmade island near the mill

[ENG]
Briezhu ford is the longest shallow ford in the Venta river.
Flood carried away the first Venta bridge (the so-called Chain Bridge) in the March, 1615th, which was built by German Order opposite the castle Kuldiga. There was no bridge across the river Venta for 259 years after that. Briezhu ford was used to cross the river than.

There were house towards Briezhu ford called Briezhi. As can be seen from the remains of buildings, house has been quite big, but the hosts before the WWII were sent to Siberia, and never returned.
During the Soviet period, when the house was already destroyed, hay were mown in the surrounding meadows and transported across the Venta along ford when the water level was low. Dolomite here has created an ideal pass. Descent to the river is well visible and is located about 300m away from home in the southern direction.
There is another interesting place to see. It looks like a water mill ruins. Here is a manmade island of stones that separates narrow channel from the main river and leads water to the mill. There is not much left of these structures, but even the remaining foundation made of the dolomite is worth admire since passed numerous floods and standing still.

One of the options how to get to the cache is drive from the South side till forest near the river Venta (that's where the old road to the Briezhi house was), and then follow the abandoned and now overgrown and seamless path about 2 km along the coast of Venta. It's deer and wild boar path now. Boots recommended, but you can do without in dry.
In summer when the water is level low, you can cross the river along the ford - it's much closer this way.
Anglers might like this cache all seasons :)
