PARQUE EDUARDO VII
Lisbon’s landscaped central park climbs one of the city’s many hills and offers views over downtown seen between two hills (one of them topped by the ancient castle) all the way to the river and the hills of the southern bank.
Lisbon's central park ascends one of the city's hills and provides a wonderful view from the top. It is made up of symmetrical box hedging and a variety of plants, most of them found inside glasshouses from the 1930s (the cool greenhouse and the hot greenhouse), which are filled with exotic species from tropical climates.
There is also an attractive tile-covered building dedicated to Carlos Lopes (he won the Los Angeles Olympics marathon for Portugal) where special events are held. Every summer it's also the site of the city's annual book fair, lasting for several days. The park was named after Britain's Edward VII who visited Lisbon in 1903, six centuries after the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance was signed.
O maior parque do centro de Lisboa sobe uma das suas colinas, oferecendo uma das mais belas vistas da cidade. Entre o seu vasto relvado encontram-se duas estufas criadas nos anos 30 (a Estufa Fria e a Estufa Quente) com várias espécies de plantas vindas de climas tropicais.
Tem também um edifício com um exterior coberto de azulejos que foi dedicado a Carlos Lopes (vencedor da maratona das Olimpíadas de Los Angeles) onde se realizam eventos especiais. Pouco antes do início do verão também se realiza aqui a anual feira do livro que dura vários dias.
O parque foi batizado com o nome de Eduardo VII, o monarca inglês que visitou Lisboa em 1903, seis séculos após a Aliança Luso-Britânica. Este parque ajardinado sobe uma das muitas colinas da cidade e oferece uma vista que atravessa a Baixa situada entre duas outras altas colinas (uma delas com o castelo) até ao rio e as serras da margem sul.
