Esta Multi-Cache tem como objectivo conhecer como era a geografia da cidade de Faro há mais de dois milénios, antes de Cristo.
A cache final encontra-se a cerca de 15 minutos (a pé) das coordenadas iniciais.
The objective of this Multi-Cache is to know how was the geography of the city of Faro, more than two millennia, before Christ.
The final cache is about 15 minutes (walk) from the initial coordinates.
Faro from the 8th to 3rd century BC, passed the Phoenician, Greek and Carthaginian period. Its name was Ossónoba. Ossónoba region was essentially commercial, integrating the mercantile system of the Mediterranean.
More interesting is to know how was geography by that time.
The average level of the waters of the sea was two to three meters above the current, yielding a very jagged coastline and floodplain. Faro was thus formed by hills and mountains, where there are now houses, streets, buildings and even the wall, once even nonexistent. Stands the hill of the Cathedral, Santo Antonio do Alto, Alto da Caganita, Alto da Atalaia and Alto da Esperança. These hills were separated by creeks or channels.
The main channel of the city came from the now current 'Ribeira das Lavadeiras', that ran the Current road to Lethes Theatre, following Portugal Str, until the current Alexandre Herculano’s Square (Garden of Alagoa), forming a lagoon (Alagoa). Here, the lake forked next to Belmarço’s Palace and walked around the hill of the Cathedral (current wall) by both sides.
As we can see, today is difficult to imagine this scenario ... but why not try ...
