Captain’s log: supplemental.
Starfleet has asked the Enterprise to store a small container of dilithium crystals in a hidden location on Earth. Several Enterprise officers will form the away team, but to my surprise they expressed a desire to individually visit some Earth locations before uniting to complete their mission. I decided that it might be fun to also indulge this whimsical notion. This will complicate matters considerably in the transporter room, but permission has been granted by Starfleet Command to perform the operations.
Lt. Uhura wants to have something to eat near N 40° 46.488 W 73° 57.270.
Lt. Cmdr. Scott, however, plans on having a pint or two in Saskatoon, but he's worried about finding a designated driver. He's interested in N 52° 6.0847' W106° 34.8937 as a waypoint.
Dr. McCoy is going to reserve a room and enjoy some peace and quiet near N 35° 17.489 W 98° 58.915.
Lt. Cmdr. Spock is planning to visit a London suburb at N 51° 28.796 W 0° 08.508.
Lt. Sulu wants some fancy new Dutch sneakers, so he's going to N 52° 21.4157' E 004° 53.9778'.
Ensign Chekov wishes to visit a charming small town located at N 34° 10.468 W 82° 01.432.
Yeoman Rand wants to swim in a lake at N 46° 46.134 W 92° 48.732.
And I’ve always wanted to visit S 33° 46.578 E 150° 55.986.
It is unlikely that earth muggles will discover the hidden container, but a small subset of earthlings called “geocachers” may be able to locate it. To do this, though, they would have to accomplish the following:
- Figure out why the away team members need to visit the listed coordinates;
- Determine the order in which we complete our personal trips;
- Verify the conclusions using the verifier below;
- Enter this information into their own tricorders;
- Use their own transporters to find the location.
To add a level of security, we plan to secure the container in such a way that a special code needs to be used to open it and access the Captain’s log and related materials. Only one of two likely choices will work.
