Geocache Description:

As the name implies, this beautifull setting has been all but forgotten. This is Brackenhill Falls.

WARNING: There is no GPS route map to the cache. Follow the coordinates as per the waypoints. If you stray from the route, you can end up in trouble with a car, especially when wet.

This was once a great picnic spot. How it came to be so neglected must be a story all by itself. You will find the original walking trail skirting the cliffs an easy safe walk, although a bit overgrown. The trail goes to the old picnic site just above the pools. You will see smashed picnic tables in the vicinity. Amazing views is now obscured by trees, but the viewpoint still have a clear but narrow view of the falls. Old Google earth archives show the lawns of the past.

I remember picnics and lots of shade where there is today only a heap of fallen trees and stumps. Given it was part of a plantation so I don't mind the removal of the alien trees. Maybe one day this place will be resurrected.

Follow the waypoints to drive here or use a mountain bike or simply walk. The dirt road is fair and a car can be used, but drive carefully. There is one ditch that need carefull negotiation.

You can cool off in the pool below the first cascade. You can climb down the rocks just on the other side of the stream. Or right above the main fall, there is a steep path you can follow down if you want a quick swim.
(Only jump from the rocks when you know its clear below you. The pool is deep, but the water is black.)

Follow the waypoints to the cache, there is no GPS route available for this one.
Stay on the road, don't drive around the plantations. You are allowed to hike and cycle in the plantation.
Only enter during daylight hours. If you find a chain across the road you will have to walk. Its only 1.5km and an easy hike.

Please remove the cache from below. Don't lift the top cover. The lower cover is easy to slide out.

If you like to see this spot restored please contact MTO Forestry and suggest restoring it.
