CITO Campout - Upper San Juan Campground!
Help us celebrate Earth Day 2012 by cleaning up this local camp ground.
The USFS has agreed to give us exclusive use of Upper San Juan Campground for 3 days in exchange for a few hours of work.
Everyone is welcome to show up Friday night and camp until Sunday, or simply show up for the work day.
There is PLENTY of work here for cachers of every shape and size.
Bring the whole family! There is plenty of work the kids can help out with.
There is limited parking at the camp ground so carpooling is encouraged.
The campground will be closed to the public so if we run out of sites we can double up on camp sites and parking.
Most of the sites are designed for tent camping however there a few spots that can accommodate small trailers or motor homes.
When you sign up please post whether you will be tent camping or bringing a small trailer/motor home; and the number of campers. (So we can reserve the larger spaces).
Also if you will be donating to the raffle or putting into the potluck please post the details.
Cachers are also welcome to just come for the CITO and pass on the camping. Simply mention it in your log.
There is also a S’mores Event(Link)Friday night, as well as a Hike Event (Link)Sunday morning.
Location:
Upper San Juan Campground off Ortega Highway in Cleveland National Forest
Date/Time:
April 20-22, 2012
Friday – show up in the afternoon and camp the night. (S'mores Event)
Saturday – 8:00AM clean up starts and we go until we either finish or are tired out. We will have hotdogs and burgers for lunch.
After the completion of the CITO we will hold a raffle! There should be plenty of time for hiking and caching the area after the raffle. Then we will have a potluck dinner and camp the night.
Sunday – (early morning hike event) break camp around noon.
Donations for the raffle table are GREATLY appreciated! Also any donations of food and drinks for both lunch and the day would be nice.
I am working on a few sponsors to get a few big ticket raffle prizes! (If anyone has a shoe in for corporate donations let me know)
The work that needs to be done includes:
Trash Pick Up – Theirs everything from bottles to micro trash.
Restroom Repairs – Repair door hinges, install door bottoms, paint exterior, and remove graffiti.
Site Repairs – Remove ash from fire pits, repair and repaint park benches.
Invasive Weed Removal – Both vinca and mustard need to be removed.
General Repairs – Repaint traffic lines and arrows, remove closed sites from kiosk map, and clear the winter’s worth of leaves from the road and parking spots.
Thanks again! Looking forward to a Great event!
