Windsor is a very common city name. You find it in Australia, Canada, USA and Great Britain. This cache is meant to create a link between the citizens of these cities.
About 5500 Windsoroises and Windosorois live Windsor, Québec. Established in 1899 and deployed on an area of about 14 square kilometers in the Estrie administrative region, Windsor is part of the regional municipality of Val-Saint-François, near Sherbrooke.
The name Windsor was adopted by the city in 1914, and recalls the town of Windsor in Berkshire in Great Britain where there is a residence of the royal family. In Canada, there are two other cities named Windsor, one in the province of Nova Scotia and the other in Ontario.
Two major rivers, namely the Saint-François and Watopeka, flow through the territory of Windsor. Although the city was incorporated in 1899, the first settlers become established one hundred years earlier from the United States (before the colonization, there were Abenaki settlements scattered in the territory).
Indeed, in 1800, the Governor General Prescott gave a plot of land to Joseph Brown to thank him for serving his country. The settlers then gave to their village the name of Lower Brompton. In 1802, the Township of Windsor was consitituted with the formation of the Eastern townships of Lower Canada. The following year, two mills were built at the confluence of St. Francis and Watopeka. The development was assured with the arrival of the Montreal-Sherbrooke railway in 1852, served by the St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railway Co. Three years later, the first chemical pulp factory in Canada was built in Windsor and in 1864 the first gun powder mill in the country was inaugurated. By 1876, Michel Cloutier, a French-Canadian settler, acquired a lot and was followed by other French Canadians. Incidents in the gun powder industry were common at the time and the city of Windsor was no exception. On July 16, 1901, the gun powder mill of the Hamilton Powder Company exploded, causing great damage and a dozens of deaths. These days, Windsor is a vibrant city with a vast industrial park where there are several major companies. Windsor is known primarily for its ultramodern DOMTAR factory that produces fine paper products.
To find the cache, you will need to find two clues in one of the listed cities named Windsor.
Two solutions are available:
- Find the clue yourself in two cities you will choose from the list. A photo of you proving your presence at the location will be required.
- Contact a fellow geocacher in one of the proposed cities, and have him find the necessary clue in order to find the cache in Windsor (Québec) Canada.
To find the latitude, you have the choice between Windsor VIC, UK or MO to get the necessary information. You can use either one the result will be the same.
1 - In Windsor VIC there is an hotel with elephants on the roof, there is a side fence with a double gate into the beer garden. The gate itself isn’t actually used, but it is made of metal and has uprights with points on the top. X = the number of upright. The latitude is N45° 34. (X * 5 ) – 10.
2 - Part of the inscription on an obelisk in Bachelors Acre in the heart of Windsor UK says: «… of which as also AAA BBB provided by the BACHELORS…». There are two words missing to be translated into numbers with: A= 1, B =2 … Z = 26. The total = X. The latitude is N45° 34, X – 31.

Windsor, est un nom de ville très répandue, vous en trouvez en Australie, Canada, Etats-Unis et en Grande-Bretagne. Cette cache veut créer un lien entre les citoyens de ces villes.
Environ 5500 Windsoroises et Windsorois habitent Windsor, constituée en 1899 et déployée sur une superficie de près de 14 kilomètres carrés dans la région administrative de l’Estrie. Windsor fait partie de la municipalité régionale de comté du Val-Saint-François, à proximité de Sherbrooke.
Le nom de Windsor, adopté par la ville en 1914, rappelle la ville de Windsor dans le Berkshire en Grande-Bretagne où l’on trouve une résidence de la famille royale. Au Canada, il y a deux autres villes du nom de Windsor, en Nouvelle-Écosse et en Ontario.
Deux rivières importantes, soit la Saint-François et la Watopeka traversent le territoire de Windsor. Même si la ville a été incorporée en 1899, les premiers colons s’y établissent cent ans plus tôt, en provenance des États-Unis (avant la colonisation, on y trouvait des campements des Abénaquis, disséminés sur le territoire).

Les incidents dans les poudreries étant monnaie courante à l’époque, la ville de Windsor n’y échappe pas et, le 16 juillet 1901, la poudrière de la Hamilton Powder Company explose, causant de grands dégâts et une douzaine de morts. De nos jours, Windsor est une ville dynamique avec un vaste parc industriel où on trouve plusieurs entreprises importantes. On connaît Windsor surtout par son usine ultramoderne DOMTAR qui produit du papier fin.
