Geocache Description:

During the 20th anniversary of the Baltic Way both Karksi and Naukšeni municipalities
revealed a memorial monument at the border-crossing of Lilli-Ungurini. The author of the
monument is a Latvian metal artist Andris Dukurs and the monument itself represents figures
of 7 people standing in a line holding their hands. Everyone who visits the monument can stand
next to the figures and imagine that he is taking part in the Baltic Way too.

The Baltic Way took place on the August 23, 1989, marking the 50th anniversary since
Germany and Soviet Union concluded a pact with its confidential protocols
which predefined a mutual non-aggression between each other. The Baltic Way was a unique
and a peaceful demonstration which united the people of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
trying to get freedom. Approximately 2 million people stood together and held each others hands
to make more than 600km long human chain through all three Baltic countries.
THe Baltic Way was added to the UNESCO programm called "World Memory". The purpose of the
programm is to maintain library and archive collections and let them be available all around
the world.
