Welcome to our fourth group of Geocaches in & around the Forest of Dean. Around English Bicknor is a circular route of about 5 miles, with English Bicknor as its centrepiece. The village is situated on a hill above the surrounding fields and woodland. It is a very old village with a Norman church & an ancient motte & bailey (the castle no longer exists). The village was first recorded as a hamlet as early as 1066. There are 9 caches in the series & some lovely views along the way.
The area around cache 7 and above Blackthorns Farm is one of the highest spots in the region, and the route is more or less all flat or downhill from now on. The views are tremendous on good clear days and the pathways are obvious. Please use the clue for this cache & if it means nothing to those of you blessed with youth, then Google could prove to be a friend. When leaving cache 7 the path goes along & outside of the back fence of the farm. Do not go through the gate into the farm itself. Turn right at the end of the footpath (very muddy at present) and along the made up road, to the main road. Please cross the main road with care, as it is busy, especially during the summer months.
