The church of St Nicholas is mentioned in the Doomsday survey of 1086,
but there are no identifiable remains of this early church. There are 12th century stones incorporated in the building which suggest an aisled church of that period. The present building dates from the mid-thirteenth century with extensions in the fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The Cavell Chapel is a very attractive vaulted room that dates from the sixteenth century and is used for private prayer and the monthly mid week Holy Communion.. There are two faded wall paintings each side of the screen dated 1450. There is only one stained glass window, dating from 1896 at the east end of the south aisle. Windows are of diamond shaped leaded lights. The Nave is lined by 38 carved poppy heads, two of special importance. The church seats 150 comfortably.
As with all old buildings repairs are on going. Lately the PCC has carried out repairs to the exterior stonework and roof, the clock and two windows at a cost of £4630 which was paid in full.
