Geocache Description:

A magnetic micro cache located near the entrance to the parish church.

The church of the holy cross, built in 1529, is a tranquil church set in the heart of Devon. There is no village of Cruwys Morchard which confuses a lot visitors. Instead, Cruwys morchard is a Parish consisting of 3 Hamlets; Pennymoor, Nomansland, and Way village. The Cruwys Family have resided at Cruwys Morchard House, (The Manor House), since the reign of King John, (1167-1216). The Church was originally constructed with a spire on top of the tower however in 1689, was stuck by lightening, which melted the bells and necessitated the rebuilding of the top stage of the tower in brick. It also destroyed painted windows which bore the arms of the Cruwys family. The repairs, which also involved a new roof and new pews, took thirteen years to complete. The windows were replaced with stain glass renderings of the Cruwys arms, hence the name of the Pub in Pennymoor. More recently, the Church has had a newly treated chancel screen and the bell ringers are also looking to restore the bells.

“If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication. There is also a Church Micro Stats page found via the Bookmark list”
