I was trying to figure out how to honor 1/18/61, but I couldn't seem to fit him into the puzzle. Here are some others he might have shared ice time with:

Special Notes about the 2012 Puzzle Challenge: To be considered for Fastest Solver points, you must verify your solution with certitude. If you have worked as a team (or otherwise shared knowledge), please email me separately, so that points can be distributed correctly. All "point" scoring is arbitrary anyway, subject to change, at the discretion of the cache owner, and probably completely meaningless (unless you just want to be announced sooner at the December banquet). The real challenge is just to see whether you can solve all of these caches by the end of the year. To maintain fairness, hints should not be offered by the cache owner or other solvers until the fifteenth of the month.
Special Notes about this month's puzzle: Typically the January puzzle is supposed to be somewhat easy. This one is rated at 4-star difficulty because of multiple parts, but if you've solved kablooey puzzles in the past, I don't think it should offer too much trouble. [Obviously, I was overly optimistic here; so I bumped the difficulty up to 4.5 based on the first four days of activity.] However, I'm requiring EXTRA digits this month (which will make things quite a bit harder for Certitude brute-forcers). I picked up a bag of trash when I placed the cache. I'm sure there is plenty more in the general area for the CITO-minded.
