No 13 of 13 in the 2011 KZN Bakers Dozen
Challenge.
A very large cave, home to plenty of bats, on a private timber and
sugar cane farm. Access to the cave is about 20m off the farm road
amongst some trees. You will need to walk through some long grass
to get there so be very careful where you step as it is a long drop
if you miss the "path".
There are a number of tunnels running off each other and rumour has
it that someone has walked into these caves for about 3,5Km's. I
walked in about 50m but been by myself thought better of venturing
further into the unknown... It is quite safe to get the cache (easy
terrain but can be slippery if you don't watch your footing) but
would strongly suggest that if you wish to venture further into the
cave, you take some strong torches, do it with someone and let
someone know where you are going and when you expect to be
back.
Security patrol these farm roads daily so should you be questioned,
you can tell them that permission has been granted to visit the
cave. Should there be any problems, the farm manager, Neil Mills,
can be contacted on 079 525 2307 and just tell him that you are
geocahers. He is aware of the caches but does not exactly where in
the cave it has been placed. You can park on the side of the farm
road approximately 20m from the entrance to the cave.
Permission has been granted to place this cache.
