Marie Helene Allain - Sculptor

Sister Marie Hélène Allain (Notre-Dame du Sacré Coeur) was born in 1939 and continues to live in Sainte Marie de Kent, New Brunswick. She uses stone and metal to trace the spiritual quest of human existence. Choosing materials that symbolize elements of her Acadian heritage, Allain’s sculpture is deeply personal. Her assemblages are testaments to the human creative spirit, which, though bounded by time and place, is always yearning for communion with the divine.
Sister Marie Hélène Allain’s artistic career spans many decades, including solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the United States, and Europe. Embracing a religious calling at an early age, her artistic work traces the deep spiritual path of life. Her career as educator and mentor has made her a leader in the Acadian community. She is represented in numerous public collections, among them the Canada Council Art Bank, the New Brunswick Art Bank, the New Brunswick Museum, l’Universite de Moncton, and the City of Moncton.

You can visit one of Marie Helene's large public sculptures in front of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. This massive stone sculpture is entitled "Awakening" - completed in 1985. 2011 marks the year in which Marie Helene Allain was honoured by the Province of NB and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery with a major retrospective exhibit of her work: Oct 1st 2011 - January 8th, 2012.

Marie Helene has stated that nature has been one of her great inspirations and so this final cache is located on the edge of the old growth forest in ODell Park where the hemlock trees are well over 400 years old.
The cache contains some beautiful small stones, feel free to take one and leave one. There is a prize for the First to Find: an Acadian fly-fishing brooch in honour of Marie Helene.

Congratulations Geodimeter on the FTF!
