Geocache Description:

Site of a former sawmill.

There is not much left of it today, but at Bromseby people have used the force of water for many centuries. One of the biggest sawmills of the whole region could be found here at Bromesby from 1650 onwards, but already before a mill was in operation. It was first mentioned in a document from 1389!

The last sawmill was newly build in 1928 by an engineer from Dalarna, who used a turbine to harness the force of the water flowing from closeby lake Tärnan. In 1957 the last owner shut the sawmill down and finished thereby the 611-year history of milling at this place!

A fire destroyed some buildings in 1965 and the sawmill itself was torn down not much later. Today not much is left of this formerly quite large industry. Some foundations can be seen and some metal machinery parts are still lying around in the bushes.

An interesting information sign will give you more details. Please be careful, there are some steep walls and slippy stones, so keep you children under close observation!

You can also continue to walk a bit further to a clifftop at the lakes eastern side, which is a perfect picnic place (N50° 33.484' E018° 22.075').

On the way to this cache you will pass one of my other caches GC38NDD "The Old One".
