Geocache Description:

Camouflaged container large enough for the log, a few Geocoins, and some very small trade items. It might be wheel chair accessible but I cannot guarantee that and it could be a P&G depending on the number of Muggles around.

Welcome to one of North Carolina's five most favorite caches. Thank you to everyone that stops by with or without giving a "favorite" vote. Don't forget to step inside the nearby Welcome Center and sign their guest log after you sign this one.

About 22% of the estimated 5 million visitors to the Outer Banks each year drive along the nearby US Highway 64. But you cannot access the cache from U.S. 64. Cache is in the parking lot area of a popular Visitor Welcome Center. So, keep in mind that this can be a very busy place and the cache location is in plain view of Muggles that abound at all hours. The high year-round Muggle factor WILL make stealth necessary to retrieve/replace cache.

For some reason my GPS accuracy readings ranged from 14 to 30 ft. So I took several and averaged them.

The nearby center is conveniently located to provide visitors information on attractions, events and directions. Rest rooms and public phones in addition to a drive-up waste-dump station are available 24 hours. If you feel a little tired from a long trip to the Outer Banks this is the place to take a break and look for this Geocache treasure box or one of the other caches hidden nearby. Parking available within a few feet of the hiding place. Bring a boxed lunch with you and sit in one of the picnic areas while you look for this Geocache. If there is time after signing the cache log visit the friendly people inside & sign their guest register.

The nearby Virginia Dare Memorial Bridge opened August of 2002 to carry traffic over the Croatan Sound. The bridge was named after Virginia Dare, the first child born in the Americas to English parents, who resided on the Roanoke Island colony. At a length of 5.2 miles, the Dare Bridge is the longest in the state.

This cache was named the December 28, 2015, WINNER of the "COVETED" SNAP!!! Cache of the Day Award!
