Le granite est une roche magmatique à texture grenue, c'est-à-dire
cristallisée et composée de minéraux bien développés et visibles à
l'œil nu que sont principalement le Quartz, le Mica et le
Feldspath. C’est d’ailleurs du latin « granum »
signifiant grain qu’il tient son nom. Ce résultat est obtenu
par un refroidissement lent, en profondeur, de grandes masses de
magma. Ces magmas, acides (c'est-à-dire relativement riches en
silice) sont essentiellement le résultat de la fusion partielle de
la croûte terrestre continentale.
Les différentes compositions granitiques offrent un panel de
couleur impressionnant.
La première exploitation granitière en Montagne Bourbonnaise fut
celle du Bizin à partir de ??1880. C’est d’elle que
provint la majorité des granits des églises du Mayet de Montagne?
et de St Clément. Cette première graniterie employa jusqu’à
80 personnes.? Après la guerre de 1914, la demande classique
(bordure de trottoir, pierres pour les ponts, ?funéraire,
etc…) se double d’un important besoin de monuments aux
morts.? A l’approche de la seconde guerre, l’activité
se ralentit. A l’issue du conflit, il reste cinq ?graniteries
au Mayet de montagne. Elles emploient alors une cinquantaine
d’ouvriers.? L’activité granitière cesse peu à peu ne
pouvant résister à la concurrence internationale. Il ne reste plus
beaucoup de granitiers au Mayet ?aujourd’hui et plus aucune
d’extraction de granite.
Pour valider cette earth cache, vous devez répondre aux questions

2. Quel sentier de Grande Randonnée passe par les carrières ?
3. Quels vestiges sont visibles sur le site de l’ancienne
carrière depuis le chemin ?

Granite is an igneous rock with granular texture, that is to say
composed of minerals crystallized well developed and visible to the
naked eye that are mainly quartz, mica and feldspar. This is from
the Latin "granum" meaning grain it takes its name. This is
achieved by slow cooling, in-depth, large masses of magma. These

The first operating granite extraction plant in Montagne
Bourbonnaise was that of the Bizin in 1880. From it came the
majority of granite churches of Le Mayet de Montagne and St
Clement. This first extraction plant employed 80 people. After the
war of 1914, demand classical (curb stones for bridges, funeral,
etc ...) is coupled with a strong need for memorials. A the
approach of World War II, the activity slows down. At the end of
the conflict, there are five extraction plant in Le Mayet de
Montagne. They then use a fifty workers. Extraction plant activity
ceases gradually unable to resist international competition. There
is not much of Embroidery in Mayet today and no more extraction of
granite.
