Här pågår utgrävning av Rumpsaxgrottan. Det är Stockholms Grottklubb som några gånger per år kommer hit och gräver ut grottan.

Bergarten som grottan är bildad i är urkalksten en sorts marmor. I kalksten kan långa grottor bildas, s.k. karstgrottor, genom att vatten upptar koldioxid ur luften under långa tider sipprar ner i sprickor varvid det sura vattnet löser upp kalkstenen.
Den typen av grottor är ovanliga i Sverige utom i fjällen och på Gotland, där Lummelundagrottan är den mest kända.
Allt pekar på att Rumpsaxgrottan är en karstgrotta och inte en strandgrotta urgröpt av vågor, vilket är det andra rimliga alternativet.
Det är för att få reda på bildningssättet och också hur lång grottan är, som Grottklubben gräver ut den.
Grottan var nästan helt fylld vid den första provgrävningen 1994.
Tio år senare satte grävningarna fart på allvar. Flera kubikmeter lera och kantiga stenblock har tagits ut.
De har kommit dit under den senaste istiden. Grottan måste alltså vara äldre än den senaste istiden, vilket är ovanligt i Sverige.

The rock that the cave is formed in old limestone is a kind of marble. The limestone can be long caves formed, so-called karst caves by water takes up carbon dioxide from the air for long periods seep into the cracks where the acidic water dissolves the limestone. The nature of the caves are rare in Sweden, except in the mountains and on Gotland, where Lummelunda Cave is the most famous.
All indications are that Rumpsaxgrottan is a karst cave, not a beach cave hollowed by the waves, which is the other reasonable option.
It is to find out formation of way and also the length of the cave is, as Cave Club dig it out.
The cave was almost completely filled at the first exploration 1994th
Ten years later, the digging in earnest. Several cubic meters of mud and jagged boulders have been removed.
They have been there during the last ice age. The cave must therefore be older than the last ice age, which is unusual in Sweden.
