Hogs Pen Overlook Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

Hog Pen is a historic site adjacent to Jonathan's Woods and is a remarkable ridge line that can be viewed from Wildcat Ridge in Rockaway Twp.

Local histories describe a cave on its top formed by two huge rocks. To the west is another ridge forming a narrow ravine. Settlers built stone walls between the two that served as a sanctuary for themselves and their livestock during the Revolutionary War's Battle of Springfield in 1780. The land is also an integral part of a trail system which eventually will link Pyramid Mountain through Boonton Township to Wildcat Ridge.
We parked at the end of Hillcrest Drive N40 55.166'
W074 28.288'. It was a great walk down the blue trail to the yellow trail and on to the red trail. Feel free to pack in a lunch and enjoy the area and views for the day. Cache is a 4*6 plastic box.I have made this a 4.5 Terrain because of the final ascend to Cache. Please be careful. Left a Travel Dog Tag for FTF.
