Stargate P4079 Beta Site TB Cache Traditional Geocache

While this cache is themed to Travel Bugs (TBs), there is still a log and trade goods to welcome ALL geocachers.


Parking is adjacent to Highway 837 just a few 10s of feet from the Cache site. Be careful of heavy and/or high-speed traffic. Please watch children closely.

Please pick up only arriving Travel Bugs or Travel Bugs that are assigned to Local Duty (that is, if you find a Travel Bug that is waiting for transport to another Stargate TB Cache, please leave it in the cache).

If a TB is left at this cache (an ammo can) with a valid Stargate address, that TB will be transported to that specified Stargate TB Cache. For example: if “P3898” is included in the electronic log of your visit, or in an email to me (drossdross), that TB will arrive at the Stargate P3898 TB Cache.

If the TB is left without a valid Stargate address it will be transported to a cache that best advances its goal (in the cache owner’s opinion).

If travel via the Stargate Network will hinder the TB's goal(s), the TB's travel orders will be revoked and the TB will be assigned Local Duty.

Furthermore, if a TB owner doesn’t want their TB to travel the Stargate network, quickly contact me (drossdross) and I’ll revoke its traveling orders. If the cacher dropping off the TB doesn’t want the TB to travel the Stargate network, include this information in the cache log (both paper and web). The TB will be assigned Local Duty.

Anyone interested in establishing a Stargate TB Cache in the US or Canada that is at least 500 miles from any other Stargate TB Cache please contact me, drossdross. Different criteria exists for some other countries/continents, so contact me (drossdross) for details for these inquires.

(*) TBs traveling overseas, or to other countries, may require multiple wormhole trips to intermediate Stargates to complete their mission. Additionally, a Zero Point Module (ZPM) may be required. Logistics to arrange multiple trips and/or to secure a ZPM may take several weeks or more. If the TB’s Commanding Officer (i.e., owner) does not want the TB to volunteer for such a lengthy, long-distance mission, just quickly contact the owner of originating Stargate TB Cache (me, drossdross, for P4079) and they will revoke the TB’s travel orders - and reassign the TB to local support duties (i.e., redirect the TB to local caches).



This cache is NOT a TB Hotel. Take as many TBs with local missions as you can reasonably help along. Leave as many TBs as you deem proper. DO NOT attempt one-for-one TB swaps, or trading anything for TBs for that matter. Normal trade rules apply for non-TB items.





OF HISTORICAL INTEREST . . .

From the Stargate P4079 Beta Site, the view across the Monongahela River includes much of McKeesport. To the right, the mouth of the Youghiogheny River can easily be seen. Conrad Weiser made a journey to this area in the summer of 1748 in order to enter into a treaty on behalf of Pennsylvania with the western tribes. Queen Aliquippa was living at a village on the north bank of the Allegheny, a short distance above the mouth of the Monongahela. Weiser mentions his visit in a note in his journal (dated August 27th): "Set off again in the morning early. Rainy weather. We dined at a Seneca town where an old Seneca woman (Queen Aliquippa) reigns with great authority. We dined at her house and they all used us very well." Later, when Washington made his journey to the French forts in the latter part of 1753, Queen Aliquippa was living at the present site of McKeesport, Allegheny County. When he and Christopher Gist reached Frazer's cabin at the mouth of Turtle Creek late in December, he learned from Frazer that Queen Aliquippa was offended by his failure to call on her on his way from Virginia to LeBouef. He [Washington] then determined to visit her on his way back. He makes the following notation in his journal without giving a specific date, but from the context it is clear that it was some time between December 28th and the last day of 1753: "As we intended to take horse here (at Frazer's), and it required some time to find them, I went up about three miles to the mouth of the Youghiogheny to visit Queen Aliquippa, who had expressed great concern that we passed her in going to the fort. I made her a present of a match-coat and a bottle of rum, which latter was thought much the better present of the two." Thus it is historical record that George Washington made a journey through the area visible from the Stargate P4079 Beta Site and that Queen Aliquippa lived in this same region for some time.



THE STARGATE TB CACHE NETWORK . . .

Over Christmas break of 2003, my Dad and I discussed the idea of bringing some of the wonder, awe, and excitement from the great Science Fiction series Stargate SG-1 to geocaching. Having watched a few Travel Bugs (TBs) struggle to get long distances, the idea of Stargate TB Caches was formed. We each set up a cache: One in Pennsylvania and the other over 1000 miles away in Kansas. In March of 2004 they were approved and thus was born the infant Stargate TB Cache Network – a single wormhole through the geocaching landscape. Within days the first TB traveled over 1000 miles from Pennsylvania to Kansas. Before the end of March, a third cache joined the network. Then more caches joined. In January 2005, the Berlin Germany Stargate TB Cache became the first international cache in the network. And now the network continues to change and grow . . . .
